The working group has started the planning for the harvest fest and it looks like it will be a great one.  Most of the events will return with a few minor changes and others will be added.  The proposed schedule is listed below.  Some events may be added and others may be changed or deleted as we finalize the events for the harvest fest.

Open Ceremony:  Color Guard and Singing of National Anthem

Booths and displays open from 10 AM to 5 PM

Corn Husking Contest south end of barn near fence at 1:30 PM.

Two categories 15 years and above  and 14 years and below.

Sign up at the registration booth at the entrance.

It’s that time of year again.  We are having our annual May garage sale at the Iams Homestead, 349 South Broadway, Trotwood, Ohio 45426.  If you have attended any of our garage sales in the past, you know the kinds of items that we have.

I have included a slide show of some of the items that will be in the studio during the garage sale.  There will be an assortment of items covering the front lawn and under the tents. Furniture, men's items, housewares, crafts, sewing, clothes, games, toys, books, office, yard and garden, to much to list.

I will post another slide show before the garage sale to show some of the items that will be outside and under the tents.

TROTWOOD-MADISON HISTORICAL SOCIETY IAMS HOMESTEAD MUSEUM GRAND OPENING

If you were not present for the reopening of the Iams Homestead Museum, you missed a great time.  The weather was perfect and the displays in the museum were outstanding.

This year the themes for the displays were the 100th Anniversary of World War I; the 100th Anniversary of the Kirby Vacuum Cleaner; 50th Anniversary of the GI Joe Doll: and the 50th Anniversary of the "Beatles Invasion".  If you were a teenager during 1964, you will remember the Beatles first trip to the United States and their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.

The first floor of the museum has displays of WWI uniform items; other items of this period; and information about WWI.  There are displays of the GI Joe doll and other items that came with GI Joe.  there is a Kirby Vacuum Cleaner with attachments on display and information about the company.  There are many pictures of the Beatles on display;  album covers; and articles about the Beatles.  The kitchen has many displays of old kitchen dishes, utensils, sad irons, medicine bottles and other items found in most kitchens of the past.  The parlor has displays of period furniture; pump organ; clothes; and miscellaneous displays of other items from the past.

The second floor has a room set up as an old school room .  We have old student desks; a teacher's desk; old wood stove;  composite pictures of the graduating classes from the old Trotwood-Madison High School; and other items found in classrooms of the past. We also have a bedroom set up with period furniture; period clothing; some children toys, and other items found in bedrooms of mid to late 19th century houses.  We have a few artifacts located in a room that is used as a research/work area.  This room is not on display for our regular museum openings, but is on display for special occassions suche as our annual harvest fest and museum grand reopening.

Trotwood-Madison Historical Society Booth at Shop-Til-You-Drop

It’s 2014 and a new year of exciting events for the Society. Our first event is Shop ‘Til You Drop on January 25 and 26 at Hara Arena. We have booths 18 & 19 and have garnered quite a following for our clean, well-displayed merchandise.We have a nice selection of Valentine Day and Easter items, glass items, older Fisher Price toys and more than usual "older collectible items".  Come out and enjoy the weekend and help your community and Society. I guess Christmas is the time of the year to give thanks for all the good things that have been bestowed upon us.  The Society has been especially blessed this year with many donations that have been received.  If you have attended our garage sales, Shop Til You Drop booth, or the Country Store during harvest fest you know the amount and quality of the items we have to offer our customers.  If you have not visited these events, Kris Kringle will be your last chance to come to one of our Society sales this year.  I think you will be truly amazed at what we have to offer and will find that something special that you have always wanted—even if you did not know you wanted it.

The elves have the Kris Kringle Shop ready for the opening day on December 5, 2013.  Four truckloads of items were moved from our storage area to the Iams Homestead to be added to items already there.  The elves sorted, cleaned, priced and put the items on display for your shopping pleasure.  They do such a great job and the shop looks beautiful.

Country Store 2013 is one of our best ever.  So many neat, one of a kind items lovingly cleaned and placed on display for your shopping pleasure.

HISTORIC GLIMPSES OF TROTWOOD, OHIO

The Trotwood-Madison Historical Society has sold out of the second printing of our Historic Glimpses of Trotwood, Ohio book.  We are no longer taking orders and as of today, there is no plan reprint the book or publish another book.

Thanks to all who pruchased the book.  If we decide to reprint the current edition or publish a new edition, a notice will be placed on our blogspot.
